The second-hand marketplace Members Voice Frustration Over Sizing Updates
Members of the platform have expressed outrage due to a modification that led to listings displaying inaccurate size information.
The second-hand shopping app has altered its size classifications for women's and children's garments but did not contact all shoppers about the modification.
Online Platforms Backlash
Numerous buyers and vendors are expressing on platforms saying Vinted listings now show a different size category than originally posted because of the remapping.
The company said the revised method more closely matches similar services.
They have suggested members to examine their items and adjust the sizing manually where appropriate, resulting in member annoyance.
Size Classification Modifications
Earlier, the measurements included a single numeric size and a letter, such as S/8 or M/10.
The new system has an alphabetical indicator and numerical range like S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the size labels have been reassigned - like an L measurement was previously a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
User Stories
A fashion influencer, who produces content about larger sizing, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.
Another user, based in Glasgow, said garments she listed with size 14 tags were displaying on the service as larger sizing 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they will likely be quite upset," she stated.
Manual Updates
A different user, located in England, said she had been left angered by the change as she had to manually change the measurements for "each individual item".
"This situation is especially annoying, since I have chronic health issues and platform income has been essential after experiencing income reduction," she stated.
Service Background
The app has more than 100 million shoppers, including 18 million in the UK.
It has become a favored option compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance that an unexpected update to the app has proved unpopular: last year, the platform withdrew an update to its shipping options after backlash from users.
